Cops and Robbers in Our Lives
Think back to when you were a young child. You and your friends would play cops and robbers. The game was for the cops to catch the robbers by placing them in handcuffs and putting them in jail. Once all the robbers got caught, the game was over. Fast forward to today. We still have cops and robbers in our lives. They are in every aspect of our lives. They could be in your families, group of friends or business networks. We all know a cop and robber, but we may not understand how they affect us. So let’s look at both of them.
THE ROBBER: A robber is someone that will take an opportunity, deprive us of a thought or feeling, belittle one’s self-worth. We all know someone that fits this description.
They Steal Our Happiness: A robber will take the joy out of any day. If they are having an enjoyable day, they may ignore you, but if are having an awful day you are in trouble. You may be enjoying your day until you deal with the robber. They want to steal your happiness so that you can join them on the “dark side” of life. Remember that misery LOVES company.
They Steal Our Ideas: Have you ever had a brilliant idea or thought stolen by a robber? There are certain robbers that will do anything to receive recognition, money, and fame. Robbers like to receive credit for other peoples ideas or hard work. They do not have any shame in taking credit for it.
They Steal Our Love: Some robbers love to discourage you. They do this to feel superior to you. They will look for ways to destroy the areas of your life they are lacking personally. A robber will constantly tell and show you that you are wrong. They continually do this until you begin to believe it.
They Steal Our Dreams: I am sure this has happened to you. You just had something incredible happen to you. So you decide to call a friend or family member to share YOUR fantastic news. During the course of the conversation, they back up the negativity truck and dump on your dream. When you hang up, you question why you even called them in the first place. They robbed you again.
THE COPS: The primary responsibility of a cop is to protect us from evil, keep us safe, maintain order and keep the peace of life. Lets deep dive into what cops do for us.
They Protect You: These are the people in your life that when you call tend to be extremely supportive and happy for you. You can share your doubts and fears. The cop will protect your dreams by helping you with solutions and ideas that support your goals. Many times the cop will accompany you to the right road to avoid getting lost.
They Serve You: People in your life that serve are cops. They are there to assist you in achieving your destination without any complications. The cops will stand guard to protect your dreams, ideas, and thoughts against those that would happily take them. They can help you with quick reminders like, “Don’t forget to lock your doors” or “Be careful that is a dangerous part of town.” The reason they offer this guidance is that they have seen people that were robbed or they could have been robbed themselves.
They Direct You: Have you ever been lost in a bad area and scared? To top it all off your GSP wasn’t working and you didn’t know how to get back on track. Then out of the blue, you come across a cop and ask for directions. The cop recognizes you are not in the correct place and quickly guides you back to safety. There are people in our lives that do just that. They help us realize we are on the incorrect path and help us back to safety.
They Hold Us Accountable: This is the primary job of the cop. They are to ensure that we are following the rules. Sometimes we hate it because it inconveniences us. I was recently pulled over by the cops for speeding. I was a little annoyed at him for choosing me, but then I realized that he could have just saved my life or someone else’s life. He was doing his job. I cannot fault him for upholding the laws that govern us. We have people in our lives that do just that; they uphold the laws of our lives. Many times we get annoyed until we stop to realize that they may have saved our lives, families or careers.
We all have cops and robbers in our lives. We need to identify the robbers. Then lock them away so they cannot hurt us. To the cops in our lives, we need to stop to thank and appreciate them. They can save us from many pains or heartaches.
Action Item: Most people want us to fail and not succeed. It is human nature. Take a moment to identify a cop in your life and thank them. It will lift their spirit and yours!
